FAQs
Intravenous Sedation is a safe and highly effective technique to treat nervous patients by placing an injection at the back of your hand. The drugs have a relaxing and calming effect but do not stop communication between yourself and the dentist. Weight, age and medical conditions are assessed before suitability for intravenous sedation. This service is provided by arrangement only at Westbury Dental Care and Implant Centre and intravenous sedation is one of the most used sedation treatments used for patients that are nervous before treatments. Furthermore, if you are having a treatment such as tooth extraction, where pushing and pulling is part of the process, intravenous sedation will really help you to fully relax.
Oral sedation is a popular treatment option for many people because it does not require the use of additional needles. Sedative tablets (dependent on patients’ medical condition) are given before the treatment to dull the senses so you feel much calmer and relaxed. If you also have a fear of injections, then oral sedation is the next best alternative. Oral sedation makes you feel fully relaxed and slightly drowsy, although you will still be awake. This is the type of anesthesia most commonly associated with sedation dentistry.
