What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is an extremely effective, non-evasive treatment which allows our dentist to quickly improve the overall appearance of your teeth and smile. The treatment achieves minimal gaps between teeth to give you that complete smile that you can be proud of. Bonding requires a tooth coloured resin to be added to the surface of the tooth and shaping it to mask any flaws or imperfections like tooth gaps, cracks chips and discolouration. Unlike crowns and veneers, which require more time to prepare and a second visit to place them, bonding can be completed in a single visit. There is no shaving of the tooth or teeth, or any removal of the teeth’s surface. This means that there is no chance of any pain or sensitivity after the cosmetic bonding treatment. The Procedure

Cosmetic bonding is a minimally invasive cosmetic dental treatment that causes little discomfort or uneasiness. When you visit us for your initial consultation, we will discuss your individual requirements for cosmetic bonding treatment so that we can start to formulate a bespoke treatment plan that clearly sets out the main objectives including the amount of teeth to be bonded. When you revisit us on treatment day, the first thing our dental professionals will do is thoroughly clean your teeth, before ‘’etching’’ them with a gel that microscopically roughens its surface.

Next, the gel will be rinsed off and the liquid composite resin is painted on with a brush. The bonding material will then be cured before another layer may be applied. It’s possible that this could be repeated several times in order to build up a thicker coating. Lastly, our cosmetic dentists will shape built-up materials into its final form!

We may also recommend and prescribe you a specific mouthwash if we feel that it’s necessary to do so for the individual. Moreover, we may also invite you back for a check-up in a few months to ensure that everything is functioning as it should be and/or to make any minor adjustment to improve the overall appearance of your smile.
